It’s a sign of the times!
After a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning next week BPCA will commence installation of new “wayfinding” signage across Battery Park City. Construction equipment (pictured) is now staged on the North Esplanade to facilitate the excavation work associated with this project beginning Monday, July 12. Work will proceed during regular citywide construction hours (Mon.-Fri., 7AM-6PM), with no nighttime or weekend work scheduled at this time.
The Battery Park City Wayfinding Program is a comprehensive wayfinding and signage initiative intended to improve directional signage for multiple users along and through streets, sidewalks, public spaces, and transition points within BPC.
This initiative consists of more than 200 signs to be installed in specific locations within and adjacent to BPC. Installation will commence in the neighborhood’s northern end (the North Esplanade, Chambers Street / River Terrace, and Rockefeller Park) and proceed down to South Cove, with work scheduled to be completed in Fall 2021.
Originally instituted in the early 1990s, wayfinding signage across Battery Park City has been periodically updated through the decades. Learn more about this updated signage initiative, developed in consultation with local community partners, below:
