BPC PARKS HAPPENINGS: JANUARY 2022

BPC Parks Happenings is a monthly “snapshot” of the Authority’s work in maintaining Battery Park City’s parks and public spaces. Scroll down to see what’s on tap as we start 2022!

Snow Removal Prep: Parks Operations staff are outfitting large equipment for snow removal; smaller machines being
prepared, supplies and equipment are being readied. All movable benches have been moved along Esplanade railing or sea wall to clear the way for snow removal as needed. Areas may be pre-treated with deicer solutions depending on

Holiday Tree Collection & Chipping: Place unadorned Christmas trees curbside through Friday, January 28 for pickup by BPCA staff. Tree chipping will take place at Esplanade Plaza starting at 10:30AM on Wednesday January 12, Wednesday, January 19, and Wednesday January 26. Wood chips are collected and allocated for composting in BPCA’s indoor composter.

Preventive Tree Pruning: Scheduled this month for parks throughout the neighborhood.

Future Growth: Plant orders for the 2022 season being submitted to growers this month to ensure availability.

Doggone Innovative: Fully-cured and tested dog waste compost will be applied to a designated area along the West Side Highway / Route 9A median. See more: How to Dispose of Dog Poop the Green Way

Soil of the Earth: Soil samples will be taken throughout the neighborhood’s parks as part of the Authority’s regularly-conducted physical, chemical, and biological analyses.
