"Battery Park City and the Authority are not just about the buildings – it’s about the character of the community that has developed over time. Public space has had a new renaissance in New York City, but here in Battery Park City is where it started."

BPC ICYMI | SCHOOL’S OUT: A GREAT DAY FOR A FIELD DAY

On June 27 the Battery Park City Authority hosted its annual Community Field Day in Rockefeller Park, encouraging families, friends, and those alike to celebrate the start of summer with fun-filled games and music. More than 500 guests attended the free event from 10am to 1pm, hours packed with no shortage of activities and entertainment.

Classic field day events like relays, tug of war, and potato sack races put a smile on every face, but we didn’t stop there. Tennis instructors and chess masters taught and officiated games, and the face painting station was a hot ticket to be had. Elsewhere, Double Dutch jumpers encouraged everyone to show off their fast footwork, while hula-hoops, chalk drawing, BPC spin-the-wheel prizes, and basketball rounded out the activities.

And the music! DJ D-Official kept the jams and party going with his sweet beats during a brief rain, helping participants rally for a strong finish. To top it all off was everyone’s favorite summer treat: free ice cream!

Thank you to all who enjoyed BPC Community Field Day 2018, an event fast becoming a local fave. And thank you our amazing Parks Programming team, which plans hundreds of free events each year for BPC residents, visitors, and friends of all ages.
