 BPCA President B.J. Jones Named Chief Executive Officer

The Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) Board today announced the following changes to its leadership and composition at the monthly meeting of its Members:

– Dennis Mehiel, who has served as Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since his appointment by Governor Cuomo in 2012, announced that he would be leaving the Board;

– Member George J. Tsunis, appointed by Governor Cuomo last June, was elected to serve as the new Board Chairman; and

– B. J. Jones, appointed Battery Park City President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2018, was elevated to Chief Executive Officer

“It has been an honor to serve as Chairman of the Battery Park City Authority,” said outgoing BPCA Chairman Dennis Mehiel. “I hope that we are better managed, better engaged, and better integrated with the greater downtown community than when I arrived. I leave convinced that BPCA is well-positioned to meet whatever challenges the future holds, and have no doubt that with Chairman Tsunis and President and CEO Jones at the helm, the Authority is in very capable hands.”

“I am honored by the trust placed in me by my fellow Board Members and will endeavor each day to validate their decision, guided by the principle that our residents and community will always be priority one,” said incoming BPCA Chairman George Tsunis. “I also want to thank Chairman Mehiel for his tireless efforts and honorable service – he did an outstanding job. Most of all I am mindful and respectful of the special place that Battery Park City is, and I look forward to meeting as many residents as I can in the near future.”

“I am grateful to the Board for its support and confidence, as well as the talented staff at the Authority for their ongoing commitment to positive public service,” said BPCA President and Chief Executive Officer B.J. Jones. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with the community as we pursue opportunities to strengthen resiliency, preserve affordability, champion environmental responsibility, and create programs that help connect us all.”

BPCA Board Meetings are open to the public, and streamed live and archived on BPCA’s website. The BPCA Board meets at 200 Liberty Street, 24th Floor.
